Welcome to Eilat, the Sunshine city. A resort perched on the south coast of Israel bordering Egypt on one side and Jordan on the other. It is enveloped by golden desert and the warmth of the Red Sea. Its a destination where you can almost guarantee year round sun to secure yourself the perfect summer or winter break.
I adore Eilat. It has a laid back approach towards everything, but then why not? The main focus is on relaxation and sun bathing, so be prepared to adapt to a slower pace here. The beaches whilst busy (especially weekends) are gorgeous and the land and sea breeze creates a nice cooling effect.
I do however consider Eilat to be an exciting alternative to your usual beach destination, not only blessed with the dry warm climate but offers an array of alternative activities to ensure that your stay here is as relaxed & laid back or as adventurous as you prefer. The good thing is that you can combine the two and you'll never be bored.
Hotels are plentiful and the large Israeli hotel chains have numerous options from budget to luxury. Most Israelis when holidaying here tend to opt for the All Inclusive option as it keeps the costs down, especially when travelling with a family. However, wandering out and about you will soon realise that the array and style of restaurants is very extensive indeed.
Divers and snorkelers will already know that Eilat is one of the best places to come to enjoy the coral reefs and colourful marine life. In addition avid bird watchers flock here (pardon the pun) to capture their migration every year.
The annual Red Sea Winter Jazz Festival attracts a number of big names and always draws in a big crowd.
The essence of Eilat however is very much on relaxation and escapism. With easy access by both road and domestic flying from TLV Ben Gurion, this is the perfect 'getaway from it all' destination. So when coming with the intention of hiring a car and exploring the country, don't dismiss the long drive south (4-5hrs) if you have the time, you won't be disappointed. Israelis flock here for their holidays as the whole city is tax free so products are often significantly cheaper than elsewhere.
Eilat’s newly constructed Ramon Airport has officially opened, north of Eilat as of 21 January 2019. The new Ramon Airport is set to replace both existing airports: Eilat City Airport & Ovda, to create an impressive hi tech alternative offering an international gateway to Southern Israel and the Red Sea. A number of low cost carriers are set to commence flights here so get your baggage packed and swim suits to the ready, Elait awaits you!
There is no question that when it comes to selecting a destination for divers, be they beginners or seasoned, Eilat is up there with the best of them.
The coral reefs rocking gently beneath the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea are just captivating. They are the most northerly reefs in the world and this alone attracts thousands of divers each and every year who flock to admire the calming natural aura they exude. There are said to be over 200 Coral species to admire.
The swarms of tropical fish from Barracudas to clown fish are mind-blowing and even better when swimming with the dolphins. The diving schools available are plentiful and all are established companies that offer a range of options according to your skill level and budget requirement.
The majority of diving clubs in Eilat are located in the southern coastal strip. Many of these are natural reserves. Some may be closed, though others are open to the public, offering breath taking diving sites where you can dive during the day as well as the night.
The Dolphin Reef Eilat is a wildlife treasure on the shores of the Red Sea, where action-packed adventures go hand-in-hand with nature and relaxation. At the Reef, visitors enter a magical site, interacting with dolphins in their natural habitat; a stunning beach, where the plant-life is in full bloom and the view is breathtaking. Animal welfare is an important issue in Israel and this is more than just a sea park. It is a unique ecological environment that allows the dolphins a safe and uninhibited environment. There is a long term goal to this project and it is by far the best of its kind I have ever seen. Official Website
let us not forget that Eilat boasts some of the best beaches in the Southern Europe. Gently shelving crystal waters blend with white gold sandy beaches to deliver a paradise closer to home with easier access. So don't feel guilty if you come & do nothing at all except unwind eat and enjoy!
This area is without question one of the best experiences I have had when partaking in nature trails and trekking. Not being an avid trekker I did not even know if I would enjoy it, thinking it may be a bit too gruelling and perhaps a stroll along Eilat Marina would better suit! How long could I be. Just over 20km away from the centre of Eilat, it will not take you too long to reach the area. The Canyon has naturally formed over the years from the elements to create a sandstone oasis to discover at your leisure. There are suggested trails to follow and dressing sensibly is essential - But do take advantage and experience this natural wonders if you have the time.
Timna Park is outstanding in its variety of scenic, geological and archaeological sites of global significance. It's acacia trees and other arid-land vegetation, its herds of wild ibex looking out at you from the cliff tops, and its evidence of human activity from antiquity to the present all make Timna Park an incomparable visitor magnet. Various activities await you, including pedal boats on the lake, coloured sand bottle craft, making "King Solomon's stamps" and much more – fun for kids and grownups alike. You'll also enjoy the delicacies at King Solomon's Khan restaurant, a souvenir shop and overnight campgrounds. Highly Recommended. Official Website
